The BASK Beach Club: A Guide for Guests and Visitors

Daybeds, the pool, the kitchen, the music. How the BASK Beach Club works, when to come, and how to reserve a spot.

Quick Answer

The BASK Beach Club is the daytime heart of the resort: a long pool, shaded daybeds, a small kitchen for lunch, and a bar that turns up gently at sunset. Open to in-house guests and outside visitors, with daybeds reservable a day ahead. Quieter than the famous Bali beach clubs by intent, and better for it.

What it actually is

A 30 metre pool that opens to the sea on the west side of the island. Two rows of daybeds under shade, generous spacing between them. A small open kitchen at the back for lunches and bar snacks. A long bar with a few stools at one end. Music at low volume during the day, slightly louder from 17:00, finished by 22:00.

The whole space is designed to hold its own personality without being loud. It's a beach club for people who'd rather not be at a beach club.

Daybeds, in honest detail

For hotel guests. Included in your stay. Reserve through the BASK Concierge app or just walk down. In peak season we'd suggest reserving the morning before; in shoulder we usually have space on the day.

For day visitors. Reservable. A minimum spend on food and drinks applies on the daybeds (we'll tell you the figure when you book). The minimum is generous and most groups easily meet it across a long lunch.

Cabanas. A few private cabanas at the south end for groups of four to six. Reserve a day or two ahead. Lovely for honeymoons and quiet family days.

The pool deck loungers. First-come, walk-up. No reservation needed. Ideal for an hour or two if you don't need shade all day.

The kitchen

A short, focused lunch menu:

Cold and raw. Ceviche, a tuna crudo, gazpacho, a few salads. Light, generously portioned.

From the fire. A whole grilled fish for two, a grilled chicken, charred vegetables, the chef's go-to chimichurri.

To share. A board of small bites: olives, focaccia, pickles, charcuterie. Perfect for a slow lunch.

Sweet. A few simple things. Sorbet, fresh fruit, a small chocolate plate.

Vegetarian and vegan options are not afterthoughts. The cauliflower steak is excellent. Gluten-free works without hassle.

The menu turns over with the seasons. We don't try to be everything; we try to be the right things, well.

The bar

Manuel oversees the wine programme here too, but the beach club bar is more about cocktails and beer than the bottle list. A few highlights:

  • House mojito. Local mint, lime, sugarcane spirit. Slightly less sweet than the standard.
  • Frozen margaritas. Excellent in the afternoon. The lime cuts through the sun.
  • Cold sake. A small list. Genuinely refreshing on a hot day.
  • Local beer. Bintang on draft. Reliable.
  • Espresso martini. Available all day. The bartender knows.

Non-alcoholic options are taken seriously: a tamarind cooler, a fresh ginger soda, a small list of cold-pressed juices.

When to come

Morning, 10:00 to 12:00. Calmer. Fewer people. The pool is at its bluest. Lighter clientele, often readers and couples.

Lunch, 12:00 to 15:00. Busiest. The reason for the daybed reservation. Music picks up around 14:00.

Afternoon, 15:00 to 17:00. Quietens between the lunch crowd and sunset. A favourite hour for solo guests.

Sunset, 17:00 to 19:00. Music shifts up half a notch. The light on the water is what brings people here. Daybeds fill.

Evening, 19:00 to 22:00. Bar mode. Lights low, drinks cold, conversation warm. Dinner happens at Pomona or Rosalee rather than at the beach club itself.

What it isn't

For setting expectations:

Not a Potato Head clone. No 200-person sunset dance floor. No DJ at full volume.

Not exclusive in an unfriendly sense. Day visitors are welcome. The atmosphere stays calm because the design and music keep it that way.

Not a children's pool. Kids are welcome at the family pool just off the beach club, not in the main pool. They love the family pool. Parents love the separation.

Not a place to hold business meetings. A few quiet workers with laptops in the morning is fine. A four-person Zoom call from a daybed is not the vibe.

Etiquette, gently stated

A few requests that keep the room what it is:

  • Phones on silent. Calls are okay if you walk to the gardens for them.
  • No bluetooth speakers. The house plays music.
  • Daybeds aren't for two days of saving with a towel. Use them, then release them when you go elsewhere on the property.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen. The pool drains close to the sea.
  • Music tastes are personal. If you'd like a request, ask the bartender; don't bring your own speaker.

A few rituals worth borrowing

The slow lunch. Order one small plate, then another, then another, with a glass of crisp wine between. The kitchen pace allows it.

The 5pm swim. Pool, sea, back to pool. Most guests think to do it once and end up doing it every afternoon.

The book-and-aperol hour. 15:00 to 16:30. The quietest, most underrated time of day at the beach club.

The sunset table. A two-top at the corner with the longest view. Reserve via the app.

Combining with other parts of the property

A typical guest day:

  • Morning swim or snorkel from the beach.
  • Beach club for lunch.
  • Spa in the afternoon (in-villa).
  • Sunset at the beach club bar.
  • Dinner at Pomona or Rosalee.

The geographical layout of the resort makes this a natural walk. Nothing is far.

How to reserve

  • The BASK Concierge app for daybeds and cabanas. Single tap.
  • Front desk if you'd rather speak.
  • WhatsApp to the team if you've been given the number.

We always try to honour the time you ask for. Occasionally, on a peak afternoon, we shift you 30 minutes either way; we'll always tell you ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit the BASK Beach Club without staying at the hotel?

Yes. Day visitors are welcome. Daybeds and cabanas are reservable with a minimum spend; pool deck loungers are walk-up.

Do I need to book a daybed?

In high season, yes, a day ahead. In shoulder season, often available on the day. Either way, the app makes it easy.

Is there a dress code?

Resort smart. Swimwear at the pool. A cover-up at the kitchen. No singlets after sunset.

What's the lunch menu like?

Short and focused. Ceviches, grilled fish, charred vegetables, small plates. Wood-fired where it makes sense.

Are children welcome?

Yes, at the family pool just off the main beach club. The main pool is adults-only after 15:00.

How late is the beach club open?

Until 22:00. Music finishes around then; the property goes quieter from there.

Can I bring outside food or drinks?

Please don't. The kitchen and bar are the experience. If there's something specific you'd like, ask and we'll probably have it or can make it.
